Butler's Proclamation 1862
This antiqued parchment poster depicts Union Major General Benjamin Butler's May 15, 1862 Proclamation to the women of New Orleans. His action was a result of hostility shown to his troops by the women of New Orleans; and, his proclamation warned the women of New Orleans that they would be treated without respect if they continued to insult the Union soldiers.
